What is Male Liposuction?

The best and most recommended method of getting rid of excess fat in your body is through exercising and dieting. These two will not only deliver desired results but the outcomes will also be more natural, and they are also associated with very minimal side effects. Not everyone can lose excess fat using these methods, however.  Fats can become stubborn making it very difficult or even impossible to shed the fat using regular exercises and food plans. As such, a surgical procedure known as liposuction can be done to remove this excess fat. Through the services of experienced cosmetic surgeons, Liposuction has helped a lot of men to get rid of unhealthy and discomforting fat in areas such as breasts, and belly or abdomen area.

Liposuction, also referred to as liposculpture, or suction-assisted lipectomy is a surgery where the doctor targets specific body areas to remove unwanted fat. Unlike exercising and dietary plans where your body is reducing fat holistically, liposuction is more precise. In this operation, the surgeon will use liposuction apparatus to remove fat from the exact intended area where the patient wants. The primary target areas where liposuction is mostly performed is in the breasts, the flanks and on the belly. This is because these are the main target areas where stubborn fat deposits stay unlike in women where fat can be found in different regions.

Gynecomastia and Affordable Liposuction

Gynecomastia is the development or enlargement of breasts in men. It’s a very distressful condition that can be caused by different factors. One of the causes of this disease is increased estrogen levels in the body that can be due to the usage of certain drugs and supplements. Surgical treatment of gynecomastia is one of the most performed cosmetic procedures in men. The onset of this condition usually starts at puberty. Approximately 70% of all gynecomastia cases are reported in men aged 12 to 15 years old. Not all of the cases reported at this age will be treated though. Sometimes breast enlargement in men is just as a result of hormonal changes due to adolescence and the condition gradually disappears as one gets into his 20s. Gynecomastia can also develop later on in life. Some men can start experiencing enlarged breast in their 30s. Breast development that occurs around this time is mostly the hardest to deal with.

In a few cases, gynecomastia can be dealt with medically without any procedures. The use of open excision around the breast area to remove excess fat is also used. This technique was especially popular before liposuction was introduced. The procedure involved making a small incision in the nipple area where the skin was separated from breast tissue. The surgeon will then proceed to remove excess breast tissue through this incision. This operation was, however, a bit more complicated and the results were mostly unpredictable.

With the introduction of Liposuction, most cosmetic surgeons crossed over and started using this safer and more efficient operation. There are several types of liposuction procedures, and the choice on which is to be used depends on the amount of fat being removed, the targeted area, and what the expected outcomes are.

Types of liposuction

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL)

Ultrasound or ultrasonic assisted liposuction was first used in the United States in 1995. In Europe, the procedure was introduced earlier on, in 1993. This technique has undergone various changes and improvements over the years enhancing its performance, the outcomes, and patient safety.

This equipment works using sound waves. A UAL equipment has a probe at the front end and a power source at the back. The doctor will place this apparatus in the target area and switch it on. The probe end then produces sound waves that remove the fat surrounding this area smoothly. The Ultrasound Assisted liposuction is particularly useful in men because it has managed to get rid of thick breast fat tissues that were previously hard to remove. Another advantage of this method is that it is safe and the outcomes can be predicted. Some medical centers can provide a simulated result of how the results will be, and this is useful in helping the patient decide whether indeed those are the results they want. Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction has also been used to remove remaining fat tissues that are left after another operation.

Not many techniques can perform revision operations without interfering with previous results and scars. UAL however, is one of the best methods of revising faulty surgeries and to further improve the results.

Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL)

Power Assisted Liposuction method is used to enhance other liposuction operations. Different body types may require the use of more than one technique to achieve the desired results. Depending on the amount of fat that you want to be removed the surgeon might also be forced to use more than one technique. PAL is the best and the safest technique that can be used in conjunction with UAL and other liposuction procedures.

Power-assisted liposuction apparatus works like an electric toothbrush. This equipment contains a cannula end that is powered by an attached vacuum pump. When the pump is turned on it propels the cannula to move rapidly within short excursions. When placed on the specific body site, this rapid movement helps to dig up and remove fat tissues softly. One of the advantages of this technique is that it does not require a lot of manual input from the surgeon. The doctor’s work is mostly to navigate the device while the cannula does the removing of fat. This is exceptional because it makes the physician’s job more comfortable giving him time to go around the entire target area carefully. It is also ideal because the results obtained from PAL are mostly even.

Laser Liposuction (Smart Lipo)

This is a rarely done procedure, and some physicians do not consider it as liposuction at all. This technique uses a laser probe which is moved beneath the skin where the patient is trying to lose some fat. The probing of the laser makes the fat in this region to melt into an oil-like substance which is then removed using traditional affordable liposuction. Only a few cosmetic hospitals perform this procedure. It is also just recommended for patients who are trying to remove fat in a small area. If the target region is too big then melting fat into oil can be dangerous because the vast amount of oil made can result in the formation of a seroma.

The Liposuction Operation

Liposuction operation is best performed with the patient under anesthesia. Some clinics will use intravenous sedation anesthesia while others will recommend local anesthesia. How much and which anesthesia is used depends on the region that is being operated on and the amount of fat that the physician is removing. LMA anesthesia can also be used with a soft tube instated in the airway for protection allowing the patient to breathe steadily while on the “Twilight” sleep as the surgery continues. Ensure that you visit an accredited clinic with certified surgeons and anesthesiologists to make your experience and outcomes better.

Liposuction operations usually take 1-2 hours done as an outpatient. The less the amount of fat being removed the shorter the surgery will be. After the surgery, you will be monitored for several hours in the facility after which the doctor will clear you to leave. Even after being allowed to go home it is always advisable that you stay near the center in the first few days just in case any complications arise.

Convalescence of Liposuction

The recovery time after this surgery is dependent on how much fat is removed and how the patient’s body has reacted to the operation. The patient’s skin elasticity and overall health will also play a crucial role in deciding how fast you can get back to your daily routine. If the operation goes well and your body is healthy and tolerant of the procedure, then you can resume lightweight duties within 3-5 days. You are advised to avoid engaging in strenuous activities during this time regardless of how well you may feel. This can interfere with the healing process and can escalate to severe complications. You should wait for at least two weeks and a doctor’s authorization before you can start running and lifting heavy stuff in your home.

To facilitate faster and safer healing, a compression garment is also provided. After the operation, your surgeon will dress you in this clothing, and you’re encouraged to have it on for not less than five days before removing it. After that, you can use the more comfortable support garments if you still want to wear one. Postoperative ultrasound and massage are also sometimes used to promote better and faster convalescence.

Liposuction Complications

Potential Liposuction complications include bleeding and infections. Some patients can also develop scars that are quite uncomfortable to look at. With certified and experienced surgeons chances of complications reduce significantly, and that’s why your choice of a surgeon is the most critical decision you’ll make when undergoing liposuction.
